Ida Lorentzen Museum
Ida Lorentzen (b. 1951) is one of Norway’s foremost visual artists. She has dedicated her world of motifs to creating and recreating life in deceptively empty spaces. In 2001, she began studying the rooms at Nyfossum to try and understand how a German mining director and his family from Dresden adjusted to life in 19th-century rural Norway.
As you walk through the house, you will notice how each of her evocative pastels reflects a change in mood by focusing on light and space. Together, they form a portrait of the inner soul of this historic house.
Visit Nyfossum and experience a dozen of Lorentzen’s works in this permanent exhibition, in which her motifs are both reminiscent of a room just passed through - and a foreshadowing of what comes next.
