Nymoen School

In the middle of Nymoen is a school that was founded and built by the Cobalt Works in 1784. Nymoen School, the first of three created under the company’s auspices, also served as the home for the teacher.

Today this is an open, but unmanned, museum where you can find out more about the history of the school at Blaafarveværket. The culture trail around Nymoen goes by Nymoen Skole.

Did you know Modum Sparebank was constituted in Nymoen School's premises? In the archive we find a document signed on 15 February 1841 in which the management of Blaafarveværket gives permission to use the school's premises. Here is the document in its entirety:

«Blaafarveværket har intet imod, at Sparebankens Direction indtil videre indrömmes Dispsition over Nyemoens Skolelocale hver 2.den Lönningsdags Eftermiddag fra Kl. 3 af, saa at i samme Indskud og Udlaan af Sparebanken kan foregaae.

Ogsaa vil Værket drage Omsorg for Localets Opvarmelse og Oplysning, samt Reengjörelse för og efter Afbenyttelsen, forelöbigen 2 Gange, hvorefter vi skulle opgive og fordre erstattet de dermed forbundne Udlæg, og dernæst forvente betimelig Underretning, om Directionen hermed finder sig tjent. Hvilket i anledning Hr. Pastor Bechs Skrivelse af Dato herved meddeles.
