Along fv. 287, above the mighty Haugfossen waterfall, you'll find Thranestua. Idyllic outdoor seating, an exceptionally charming little lounge - and fantastic, freshly baked waffles. It doesn't get much better than that, does it?

The Thranestua Café makes an ideal rest stop. Here you can satisfy hungry stomachs or impatient little ones on your way to or from the Cobalt Works. It’s actually difficult not to stop!

And you might be wondering where the name comes from? Well, it's named after the man himself Marcus Thrane, the leader of the labour movement in the 1800s. Thrane worked as a private tutor for the conditioned, and actually lived in this house, which was moved to Blaafarveværket in the 1980s.

After a good meal, visit the shops and take a walk out on Haugfoss Bridge - from 1837 - and take in the views of Haugfossen with its 39 metre high waterfall.

Thranestua is well known for its waffles, but we also serve other favourites here. Freshly made pancakes with ice cream and homemade blueberry jam is one of them. Our friendly staff also have other lunch dishes on the menu. Should the weather be just right one day, remember that you can enjoy your food indoors, both on the second floor of the café, or in the taproom below.

Thranestua follows the rest of Blaafarveværket's opening hours during the summer (May - October).
