Social history and image analysis

How did natural resources and industrial development affect Norwegian society?
What was daily life like for people working in mines in the 19th century? How did
decipher gothic letters? And what can the colour pink and quick brushstrokes symbolise?

The "social history and image analysis" programme combines cultural heritage and visual art through
a deep dive into the social history of the Blaafarvewerk together with a participatory mediation in the
annual art exhibition.

The programme itself sums up the role of the Blaafarveværk as an industrial and art museum. The programme is divided into two parts and focuses on the daily lives of Blaafarveværk's employees, from the top managers to the poorest of the poor. This is done in authentic surroundings in the director's residence at Nyfossum and in the workers' homes at Nymoen. The tour ends at Nymoen School, where the pupils are given the task of deciphering a document, written in Gothic, from Blaafarveværket's rich archive.

After the lunch break, students will participate in a dialogue-based guided tour of Blaafarveværkets
annual art exhibition.
