Bicykle
If you come to the Cobalt Works and Mines by bike, you can make use of several facilities we have organised for cyclists.
The Cobalt Works and Mines are located in the centre of the National cycle route no. 4 which runs between Oslo and Bergen. Surrounded by a fantastic cultural landscape, the area is great for cycling tours and the short distances between activities, experiences and accommodation make it easy to start planning.
Our cycling facilities
Secure bicycle parking: Here, you can lock your bike in fixed bike racks at all the museum's departments.
Free charging locker for electric bikes: At the Cobalt Works and Mines, you can charge your electric bike battery for free while you visit us. At both locations, we have lockable cabinets with the capacity to charge nine batteries at a time. At the Cobalt Works, the charging cabinet is in a separate building by the car park. At the Cobalt Mines, the charging cabinet is in the Mining House at the Mining Yard.
Easy repair: In the unlikely event of an accident, you can contact the staff at the Tourist Information Centre at the Cobalt Works, at Haugfoss, Nyfossum and in the Mine Shop, where they have a bicycle pump, repair kits and simple tools for loan.
Cycling tours in the local area
SvingOm is a network of accommodation and catering establishments, activity companies, food and drink producers in Numedal, where we are part of the cycling network. Two of their many great cycling tours pass through us.
BLAAFARVERUNDEN: The cycle tour takes you through beautiful cultural landscapes from Lampeland to the Cobalt Works, Mines and the Kittelsen Museum and back to Lampeland via the stave church at Vatnås and the idyllic village of Lyngdal in Flesberg.
THE ART AND COBALT TOUR: The route takes you to the Cobalt Works and the Kittelsen Museum, as well as to Th. Kittelsen's artist home Lauvlia. The cycle route takes you through the fairytale kingdom, forests and landscape that inspired Th. Kittelsen. From Lauvlia you have a view over Soneren to Andersnatten. One of Kittelsen's most famous oil paintings (pictured). A blissful bike ride.
