Historical guided tour of Værket
Join us on a guided tour of Blaafarveværket and learn about our 250-year history.
The historical tour of Værket starts outside the Tourist Information Centre, where you can also buy your ticket. The guide will take you through the Glassworks dating from 1779, through Nedre Farvemølle, Arsenikkens Hus and Den Blå Butikk, where our large exhibition of glass and porcelain decorated with cobalt blue pigment is on display.

The history of the Blaafarveværket dates back as far as 1772, when the first ore deposit was discovered at Skuterudåsen. After just over three years of trial operations, the Royal Modum Blue Dye Works was established by royal decree on 1 April 1776. This is why we are celebrating our 250th anniversary this year. A historical tour of Værket takes you inside authentic buildings from the time the site was in operation and offers an insight into the work that took place at what was, in its day, Norway’s largest workplace.
