Experiencing the Cobalt Mines’ legendary “floating” glass floor and underground suspension bridge is thrilling, and both are included in this tour - yet the Mine Safari, which begins at the Mining Yard, literally brings that excitement to the next level. We guarantee an ‘aha moment’ as you climb down the ladder to caverns where cobalt ore was first extracted in the 19th century. Not only was it taken out by hand - but only 0.02 percent of all the rock mass contained cobalt!
The trip goes 1.5 km into the mountain, has a total descent/ascent of 100 meters and takes 3 hours. Atmospheric lighting and walkways allow you to travel safely down a unique network of mine tunnels, through dark chambers, past terraces with views of beautiful rock formations, and back up to daylight again.
We recommend everyone who goes on guided mining trips with us, to dress well and to have good shoes. The temperature in the Cobalt Mines is approx. 6 degrees all year round. Everyone who goes for a walk gets a helmet for loan. On this trip you have to both climb 15 ladders and walk some steep stairs. The trip therefore has a 8 year age limit and requires generally good physique.
Dogs are not allowed to join guided tours in the Cobalt Mines.
