In the heart of the Cobalt Works towers the unique and beautiful Smeltery, or Glasshytten - the Nordic region’s largest building made of half-timbering. Built in 1779 as a smeltery, the Glass Cabin played a key role in the production of cobalt blue color. Today, it not only symbolizes our history but is also our “great hall” and serves as the site for large events and concerts.
Come and experience “From gray to blue”, an exhibit which demonstrates the production process, from cobalt ore to finished blue pigment
Nordsalen benyttes til servering av mindre grupper, møter og lignende.
You can enjoy free Sunday concerts here throughout the summer - from local choirs to jazz and even military bands. The Smeltery is also used for conferences, and our historic main hall can accommodate dinners for up to 330 people.
