This tour, only guided in Norwegian, is specially adapted for children from 4-10 years and is popular with families. After meeting in the Mining Yard, the group heads to the special glass entrance to "Forhåpningsstollen" where mining helmets and fleece capes are handed out.
With helmets on, the group follows the huge mounds of rocks along an outdoor open-mine pit until it’s time to head underground. Highlights include walking into a mine tunnel, looking into a shaft, even crossing a footbridge between open skies and deep gorges.
Participants also learn about the treasures of the mountains, such as cobalt flowers and other beautiful minerals. We’ll search for blue pigment in the rock and try to see if we can spot any of Theodor Kittelsen’s trolls and goblins in the mountain walls. After the trip, children can try their hand at a small mining quiz - with prizes for all who participate. More activities for youngsters are offered at the Children’s Workshop outside the Miners’ Inn. The Miner's Inn.
Dogs are not allowed to join guided tours in the Cobalt Mines.
NB! This tour is only guided in Norwegian. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an aduklt.
